The LLRC plays a central role in the experience of Northern College Learners and in 2007, gained a National Beacon Award from CoLRiC (The Council for Learning Resources in Colleges) for supporting learners and staff with course delivery and information.
The LLRC is located in the Long Gallery of the Main House and combines a traditional library environment with high quality information technology resources. The LLRC stocks a wide range of books, journals and DVDs and subscribes to a comprehensive suite of electronic information sources which are available to learners both on and off-campus. The entire study area is wi-fi enabled and notebook PCs are available to loan from the library desk, giving learners the flexibility to work in the location of their choice. Experienced librarians, who are also programme tutors, are available to provide help and advice to students on the full range of available facilities. They work closely with the academic staff to ensure that resources are closely matched to learning needs.
The LLRC is open and staffed for 70 hours per week September to July (from 9.00am to 8.00pm on Monday to Thursday, 9.00am to 8.30pm on Friday, and from 10.00am to 5.30pm on Saturday and Sundays) and is evaluated by Northern College learners and staff and by the Peer Accreditation Scheme via CoLRiC to ensure the highest levels of quality in service delivery.
