The Functional Skills qualifications are based around skills needed for everyday life and enable you to have the flexibility to problem solve using these skills. On this course, you will learn reading, writing, speaking and listening skills at the standards for Level 2. The skills at this level are a platform to develop skills for further academic study at Level 3 and above, and are also skills valued by employers.
What can this course lead to?
Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications are now regularly accepted in universities for Higher Education studies depending upon the degree, but will also be a requirement for many Level 3 study programmes.
This qualification aslo makes you more competetive in the jobs market.

Course fees and funding support
Functional skills and GCSE qualifications in English and Maths are free to anyone who doesn't already have either a grade 4, or a Level 2, in the specific subject. This means, if you're aged 19 or over, the government will fund your English and Maths studies until you achieve either of these grades whether you are in work or not.
