At the moment we have no available dates for this academic year. We will be updating our courses later this term for 2023 – 2024 dates.

What are the entry requirements?

No formal qualifications are required to study this course. A willingness to learn is essential.

How much does this cost?

FREE*

* This course is fully funded for eligible students.

If you are not eligible, the cost of the course is £17.50. If you choose to stay residentially, and you are not eligible via the residential funding assessment, there will be an additional fee to pay. The vast majority of students are eligible to study and stay residentially for free and we will confirm when you apply.

Course description

Are you thinking about starting a community group? Have you already started but don’t really know where to go from here? If so, this course is for you. This course will guide you through setting up your group and the use of tools to test your community idea. There will be a practical session based on your specific idea and the course will give you the first steps in testing the need for it in your local area. You will also explore the requirements of a community group depending on what type you choose. If you have an idea or have only just started a group then this course will support you in those first steps in deciding whether your idea will work.

What can this course lead to?

Other introduction courses you could go on are: Introduction to Social Action Introduction Community Wellbeing. Or you could progress onto: Exploring Volunteering Exploring Community Project Management, Possible careers include Community Group Worker, Community Group Leader and charity.
