Beauty runs deep at Northern College!

Northern College, based in Barnsley, has been voted amongst the top 15 most beautiful colleges in the UK as part of a ‘Colleges Week’ campaign organised by the Association of Colleges (AoC) to celebrate the good work that colleges do each year.

The adult education college is housed in the magnificent Wentworth Castle which is surrounded by beautiful gardens and parkland, so it’s understandable that it made the list.

But its beauty runs deeper than that. The college is rated outstanding by Ofsted and recently celebrated a 100 per cent pass rate for all its Access to Higher Education students from last year. The college also celebrated that 96 per cent of short course students said they felt motivated to progress their learning.

One student said about the college and its surroundings: “Colleges aside, I’d say that Northern College and its grounds is one of the most beautiful places in the UK!

Another student said: “Living there was another world.”

Northern College specialises in education and training for adults who wish to return to education or gain formal qualifications for the first time. The curriculum which starts from where students are, building on the experience of life and work that they bring with them. It then provides them with opportunities to acquire new knowledge, skills and fresh understanding that are so important to progress on to further study, higher education or work.

Yultan Mellor, Principal and Chief Executive at Northern College, said: “We are proud to be named one of the UK’s most beautiful colleges. We believe our students deserve the best we can provide.  We have exceptional achievement rates and student success stories brought about through the dedication of our students, our learning environment, and the expertise and commitment of all our staff.  We look forward to enabling many more students to realise their full potential in the future.”
