Northern College is supporting a Barnsley gift card scheme to support the local economy whilst saying a big thank you to college staff for their work to support adult students during the pandemic.
Northern College, based in Wentworth Castle in Barnsley, is the only adult residential college in the North supporting adults to re-enter education to upskill, progress, gain employment or retrain for a new career.
Barnsley has launched this gift card in time for Christmas to kickstart its fightback against the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on its high streets.
The Barnsley Gift Card – which can be spent in a wide range of independent and national shops, restaurants and attractions across the borough – is available to purchase online via www.barnsleygiftcard.com
The card can be spent in businesses like M&S, Boots, The Entertainer, various Barnsley Market stalls and independents on high streets around the town, and – crucially – can only be spent in Barnsley, encouraging residents to shop locally.
Gift cards can be preloaded and spent in store up to 12 months after purchase – helping to encourage footfall back into Barnsley’s high streets when shoppers feel safe to return.
Yultan Mellor, Principal and Chief Executive at Northern College, says: “We are using this opportunity to say a big thank you to all of our staff at Northern College, who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic, helping adults to re-enter education to upskill, progress, gain employment or retrain for a new career.
“Not only did our valued staff support existing students to achieve and progress their education throughout lockdown whilst distributing food parcels for our NHS heroes, they also worked really hard to launch a new package of courses to support adults who may have lost their jobs due to the pandemic and want to retrain.
“We are proud to be supporting this gift card scheme to support the local economy and high street stores – whilst saying thank you to our staff for their hard work and contribution. The gift card scheme will also help provide a welcome boost to our high street stores ahead of Christmas.”
