Northern College Student Wins at The Kirklees Adult Learners’ Awards 2025

Anita Pacitto, an adult learner at Northern College, has won the New Direction Award at the Kirklees Adult Learners’ Awards 2025.

Anita was in a workshop with The Proper Job Theater company when a rep from Northern College visited. She had never heard of them before so enquired about digital courses as she looked to regain confidence after lockdown.

She went on to complete a series of short introductory digital courses, including
intensive coding, robotics, and VR programmes.

Anita’s tutor was impressed at her aptitude and engagement with the courses
she studied as she developed her digital skills, and was subsequently nominated
by Northern College for this award.

She currently volunteers for a local branch library in Huddersfield that includes S2R (Support to Recovery) charity garden activities, and is a keen advocate of Northern College.

When asked about her learning experience at Northern College, Anita said 

“It is a privilege to study in a Grade I listed building surrounded by history”

“My IT tutor, Jim Taylor, has a gift for making IT both engaging and easy to understand. I truly appreciate his dedication and doubt I would have continued my studies, let alone succeeded without a good tutor like Jim. “

” The location is a peaceful place and good for mental health.”
