Course description

During the course we will cover the very basics of using computers: using a mouse and keyboard, basic Internet searches, finding, opening, and closing files and programs, and following basic instructions to use a computer for a given purpose (such as writing a letter). 

The course lasts for two days and students will learn by doing, performing basic computer operations to learn new skills. 

Course content

This is for total beginners to computers we will teach you how to:

  • Use a mouse comfortably (click, double-click, right-click, scroll) 
  • Use a keyboard (understand what Enter does, what the spacebar is) 
  • Perform a very basic Internet search (open a browser, type in search terms, visit results) 
  • Open and close files and applications (such as Word, Google Chrome) 
  • Follow basic digital instructions (close that document, open a browser, search for a website) 

What can this course lead to?

Students completing this course might then go on to study other digital courses at the college; it is the very first stage of digital learning for people not confident with computers.
