Course description

The course covers the following two topics: 

  • Counselling Skills and Personal Development – In this unit you will have an opportunity to reflect on your personal and future development and identify potential sources of support. 
  • Using Counselling Skills – In this unit you will have an opportunity to develop counselling skills in a helping relationship and learn how to establish appropriate boundaries. 

The content of the qualification will support you to develop and expand your counselling skills, knowledge and understanding, at level 2. You will also develop a basic understanding of what counselling and helping skills are and the training required to become a trained counsellor.  This course would be suitable for individuals seeking a career change, undertaking voluntary work in a range of sectors and those who are thinking of training as a professional counsellor. Please note: this qualification does not qualify you to become a practising counsellor but enables you to progress onto level 3 qualifications.   

What can this course lead to?

This course could enable you to progress onto a Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills programme or a Level 3 Counselling Skills Diploma. Potential future careers include support worker and victim support worker. With further study, you can also progress onto becoming a trained counsellor.
