Level 1 Award in Counselling Skills

The objective of the Gateway Qualifications Level 1 Award in Counselling Skills is to give learners an introduction to Counselling Skills in preparation for further learning or training. The development of listening skills will also support learners to develop skills need in daily life and at work for example in the field of health and social care.

The course consists of 2 units:

1. Introducing counselling skills
2. Using counselling skills

This course could lead to progression to level 2 helping courses such as counselling or peer mentoring. To progress to level 2 students will require good IT skills (as all level 2 courses are completed digitally) and a level 2 qualification in English.

This course is assessed by the completion of a written portfolio and a skills practical demonstration.

The ability to write detailed information using sentences and paragraphs is essential.

This course is a great step to learning about professional counselling skills.
