Course description

This is a taster course designed to encourage those working in or working towards professions such as peer mentoring /counselling to consider expanding their therapeutic skills in the outdoors.

Course content

The course will be immersive and experiential, with student’s learning coming directly from their reflection on responses to the learning activities.

The objectives of this course are:

To develop reflective practice skills which assess their current knowledge and skills via use of practical outdoor activities that can also be used with clients.

To introduce the Risk Benefit Analysis and basic safety processes to students

To introduce the IOL Statement of Good Practice

To explore the use of key skills in outdoor therapy play principles, symbolism, metaphor, and silence in outdoor therapy.

To develop a clear knowledge of pathways to develop further skills
